Crippling costs associated with a contagious outbreak have forced Pets/Friends for Life to temporarily cease operations and sell their St. Catharine Street facility.
The outbreak back in November resulted in intervention from provincial Animal Welfare Services, explains the organization’s acting board president Heather Fox.
Fox estimates the final Animal Welfare bill will be well over $100,000. The organization has to vacate their present home by the end of April.
Because of the outbreak, all cats and kittens were seized and the building has been sold, explains acting board president Heather Fox.
For 20 years, Pets/Friends for Life has provided a safe haven for homeless and surrendered cats.
However their monthly operating bills have been substantial.

Fox adds the organization is continuing to fundraise and the board of directors is planning a restructuring of operations.
A fundraising yard sale is scheduled for this weekend at the shelter.
