While we generally have escaped the worst that winter can throw at us, that doesn’t diminish the risk to those who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.
The Coldest Night of the Year fundraising walk is on tap Saturday in support of Youth Unlimited/YFC Elgin County.
The organization’s Kyle Rolph has details of the event.
Youth Unlimited operates the Upper Room emergency overnight shelter for young people.
The Upper Room houses local youth who are struggling with homelessness and have no place to turn, while also providing food security and basic necessities such as personal hygiene products, clothing, and grocery/restaurant cards to youth in immediate need.
A short two or five-kilometre walk on Saturday will go a long way to supporting young people in the community.
Rolph explains what the walks entail.
The funds support the organization’s efforts to help young people deal with a variety of issues including homelessness, poverty and family breakdowns.
Rolph tells myFM who they work with in the community.
The walk is this Saturday. Check-in is 4 p.m. and the walk begins at 5 from 21 Edward Street in St. Thomas.
