Senior Climatologist David Phillips tells us southern Ontario is going to a see a sandwich of cold air high in the sky, warmer moist air below that, and closer to the ground, very cold weather again.
He adds areas north of Lake Erie, in particular the Windsor and Niagara Region, could be looking at hours and hours of freezing rain, but that’s just the beginning.
Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and extremely hazardous.
Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance.
There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Beware of branches or electrical wires that could break under the weight of ice.
