At the height of last Friday’s wintery blast, Elgin OPP officers investigated 18 motor vehicle collisions across the county in a seven-hour span.
Thankfully, there were no serious injuries reported.
The OPP remind motorists during extreme weather like we experienced, you need to adopt a winter-driving mindset.
At the top of the list, slow down and adjust driving to the current road, weather, and traffic conditions.
· Allow for extra time to travel to destinations
· Leave extra space between vehicles
· Avoid sudden braking, accelerating, or steering
· Turn on your full lighting system – it increases your visibility to other motorists both in front and behind you
