A 13-year-old is facing charges after assaulting multiple police officers and causing serious injury. The incident began when St. Thomas Police were made aware of two missing youth in crisis Thursday, with grounds to apprehend them under the Mental Health Act.
Around 10:40 p.m., a officer located the youths in the downtown core and engaged with them to offer support and reconnect them with their families.
One of the individuals then struck the officer in the face causing serious but non-life threatening injuries. The officer was sent to hospital for medical treatment and was later released.
As a result, the youth was arrested and taken into custody where they threatened to kill all officers involved and spat in another officer’s face.
The 13 year old has been charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Resist Peace Officer, Assault, and Uttering Threats – Cause death or Bodily Harm.
The youth was released on an undertaking with a future court date to answer to the unprovoked violence against police.
