The strongest athletes in Ontario aged 35 and up are coming to St. Thomas this weekend to compete in the Ontario Weightlifting Masters Championships.
It’s a big deal for those in the Olympic Weightlifting world as the athletes compete to secure their spot at the Pan American Games in Orlando, Florida this July.
Organizer Daniel Paré invites the entire community to come out to Parkside this weekend to take in the 2 day event.
And as Paré notes, it’s a sport everyone can enjoy.
He adds that children can start out as young as 4 years old, with individuals 80+ still competing.
Those who attend will get a chance to learn more about the sport of Olympic Weightlifting, which is comprised of 2 different lifts- the Snatch and Clean & Jerk as Paré explains.
Paré adds that they are excited to host the event in St. Thomas this year and if any high school students are still looking to secure their volunteer hours, to please reach out.
The Ontario Weightlifting Masters Championships will run Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Parkside Collegiate Institute.
