At its board meeting Thursday, Southwestern Public Health indicated it supports the inclusion of warning labels on alcoholic beverages.
Bill S-254 would amend the Food and Drugs Act to include these labels. Public Health Ontario estimates an average of 4,330 alcohol attributable deaths occur in annually in the province.
Alcohol is also classified by the World Health Organization as a Class 1 carcinogen and is a cause of seven different types of cancer, including breast and colon.
