A St. Thomas Police officer has been cleared of any wrong doing following an investigation by the Special Investigations Unit, stemming from an incident back on December 29th, 2022.
After fleeing police in a pursuit that involved the deployment of spike belts and a collision with a concrete barrier, a 20 year old man abandoned his vehicle and hid in a small narrow gap between a porch floor of a house and a foundation wall of the property.
SIU notes an officer delivered two-short kicks to the males upper body and then grabbed hold of his jacket attempting to force the male out of the gap.
The report states that the 20 year old man arrested by the STPS was taken to hospital where he was diagnosed with a broken right clavicle.
On his assessment of the evidence, SIU Director Joseph Martino stated whether the man’s injury was incurred during the events on the porch or, as seems more likely, the motor vehicle collisions he was in, there are no reasonable grounds to believe that it was attributable to any unlawful conduct on the part of the officer.
