Ontario teachers’ unions, food banks and youth advoacates are pressing the provincial government to provide free breakfast and lunch programs in all schools.
In a letter to the provincial education minister, a group of organizations say many kids are facing food insecurity as families turn to food banks for their nutritional needs.
Feed Ontario, a collective of 1,200 food banks and other hunger relief groups, says about 30 per cent of food bank clients are under 18 years of age.
