Some Ontario workplaces will now be required to carry a kit used to temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
As of Thursday, workplace safety legislation says that high-risk workplaces must carry a naloxone kit.
Those include any workplace where an employer becomes aware that an employee could overdose on drugs while on the job.
Workplaces required to comply are eligible for a free naloxone kit and training for up to two workers.
Naloxone is a life-saving medication that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose, restore breathing within two to five minutes, and allow time for medical help to arrive.
Ontario’s Workplace Naloxone Program is the first of its kind in North America and provides at-risk employers with access to free training for up to two workers and one nasal spray naloxone kit for each eligible workplace.
