Internal government documents obtained by The Canadian Press indicate most children with autism in Ontario waiting for publicly funded core therapy will not receive it any time soon.
The assessment, obtained through a Freedom of Information request, says the provincial program’s $667 million budget will only serve 20-thousand children in core clinical autism therapies.
But there are about 60 thousand seeking services through the program and 7 thousand more added to the list each year.
The document grimly states that most children won’t receive core clinical funding in the short or medium term, leading to an expanding waitlist unless more investment is made in the program.
