St. Thomas Police are investigating another incident of what is becoming an increasingly popular scam.
On Friday, a city resident fell victim to the scam and is out $3000. The victim received an email from his boss requesting him to purchase six $500 gift cards and then to provide the card security codes to him via email.
After doin so, the victim realized the email address was not correct. The cards have since been used in the U.K. and in Hong Kong.
St. Thomas Police remind residents to be vigilant to possible scams and to always confirm unusual email requests by speaking to the sender in person.
