The OPP West Division was kept very busy over the Labour Day long weekend.
Officers from the West Region’s 13 detachments laid a total of 2426 charges from September 1st to September 4th.
This year’s campaign once again focused on the “Big Four” bad driving behaviours. This includes aggressive driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving, and impaired driving, which are the leading contributors to death, injury and property damage on Ontario roads and highways.
Speeding: 1450 charges
Failure to wear a seatbelt: 128 charges
Distracted Driving: 31 charges
Impaired Driving: 54 charges
In Elgin County alone we had 68 speeding charges laid, 8 people were charged with failing to wear a seatbelt, 2 drivers were dinged for being distracted, and 1 impaired driver was taken off the road.
The OPP thank those drivers who made the right choice to protect themselves, their families and their fellow motorists by driving safely.
