The Horton Farmers Market played host to a much anticipated lunch-and-launch event on Thursday as the United Way Elgin Middlesex kicked off their 2023 Community Campaign with the return of the 3M Harvest Lunch.
Over 200 members of the community joined United Way over the noon hour for a hotdog lunch by the Streetery, with each ticket purchased providing a meal to a neighbour in need, thanks to a number of partner agencies.
myFM had the chance to speak with Kelly Ziegner, President and CEO of United Way Elgin Middlesex who stressed that the number of people needing support continues to climb.
United Way Elgin Middlesex currently supports 52 programs at 40 local agencies that work to reduce and prevent poverty and provide basic needs and housing stability for more than 65,000 people.
Ziegner shares how much funding is needed to make an impact on St. Thomas-Elgin alone.
2023 Campaign Chair Mark Egbedeyi-Emmanuel, was introduced to the community during the launch, with the Aylmer resident becoming the first chair to hail from Elgin County. He told myFM how excited he is to get going.
With a number of big events already planned for the 2023 campaign, Ziegner adds how you can continue to support them.
All donations to United Way Elgin Middlesex stay 100% local.
