Members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation will not be going on strike.
Just over 78% of its members voted in favour of a deal with the province to go through binding arbitration until a contract agreement can be reached, avoiding potential strike action.
Minister of Education Stephen Lecce said in a press conference Thursday, keeping children in class is always their goal.
If no collective agreement is reached by October 27th, the two sides have agreed to bring in a third party to resolve any outstanding issues.
Lecce later urged the remaining teaching union’s negotiating for new contracts to follow the lead of the OSSTF.
The OSSTF has about 60,000 members.
