The Elgin – St. Thomas Food Providers Network is a vital group of community volunteers making sure our most vulnerable don’t go without a meal.
As they look to continue their work in the community, volunteers will be hosting the 25th annual “Bean Blast” fundraiser on Thursday from 11:30 to 1 p.m. at the St. Anne’s Centre.
Access to adequate and healthy food is a human right, but many people in our community struggle to make ends meet.
The Food Providers Network note that when someone is forced to choose between paying rent or buying food, they go hungry for days. One in five children in St. Thomas-Elgin live in poverty. Many seniors on fixed incomes struggle with accessing adequate and nutritious foods.
On the third Friday of every month food providers offer a full meal at St. Thomas Anglican Church for those in need. The Bean Blast will raise funds to help support those food costs.
Tickets are $10 a person and include a mouth watering lunch featuring wieners and beans, coleslaw, rolls, a cookie and beverage.
