Friday Night Lights is an annual football game where St. Joseph’s and another school compete in junior and senior games under the lights.
Of late, the game takes place at 1Password Park. Friday Night Lights has many benefits for St. Joseph’s, one being a chance to boost school spirit and morale with students attending the game and supporting the team.
The game also presents an excellent opportunity to help fundraise for the school through the sale of food and ad sponsorships on the livestream.
St. Joseph’s mascot, Ram Man is clearly visible, helping initiate cheers and chants as well as further boosting the spirit of everyone there.
Friday Night Lights is not just a night of football, but for St. Joseph’s as a whole, it’s a showcase for school spirit every year.
On Friday, Oct. 20th, the St. Joseph’s Rams faced off against the Oakridge Oaks in junior and senior games for their annual Friday Night Lights.
From the opening kickoff in the junior game, the Rams held the Oaks to within yards of their end zone for the majority of the game.
What seemed to be the first touchdown early in the game was ruled a fumble.
The game was scoreless until the 3rd quarter when the Rams scored hit for a safety with under six minutes on the clock.
The Oaks took the lead with a field goal as the clock ran out the quarter, but with 39 seconds remaining in the fourth, St. Joe’s scored a major and with the convert upped the score to 9-3 and held on for the win.
Heavy rain persisted through the night, making the artificial turf extremely treacherous. And since neither of the senior teams arrived until just before their game, they seemed ill prepared for the wet conditions.
The Rams hand their hands full with the Oaks and, trailing 43-10, with four minutes remaining the officials called the game.
A pair of injuries threw a damper on the senior game. One of the Rams was hospitalized due to head trauma and an Oak Ridge player snapped his femur.
