Hundreds of people gathered around and across from Veterans Memorial Garden on Saturday for the St. Thomas Service of Remembrance.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 41 president Valerie Clark told the gathering it is important for Canadians to show the world we strive for peace and humanity.
Special tribute was paid to the Korean War veterans. Soldiers with a deep commitment to the value of peace and freedom.
It was noted their legacy lives on in the annals of history.
Remembrance Day this year was held against the backdrop of conflicts in the Middle East and in Ukraine.
Rev. Nick Wells urged the hundreds in attendance to be instruments of peace and reconciliation.
Wells stressed the need to pray for a just and lasting peace.
A good portion of the service was devoted to the laying of dozens of wreaths.
As has become tradition, a fly past in missing man formation had heads turned skyward around 11 a.m.
This year’s ceremony included the St. Thomas Police Pipe and Drum Band, the 7th Army Cadets, the Royal Canadian Legion Lord Elgin Branch 41 colour party and the Elgin Regiment.
