Canadians can now call or text 988 if they are having suicidal thoughts or other mental health distress.
The new three-digit suicide prevention helpline will reach a trained responder 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The number will work in all provinces and territories through the network formed by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Kids Help Phone and three dozen partner agencies — funded by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
Diverse responders staffing the helpline will also be able to provide service in multiple languages.
