With less than two weeks remaining in the OPP Festive RIDE campaign, 249 impaired driving charges have been laid in West Region.
Another 43 motorists were issued warning-range suspensions. Eighteen of those charges were laid in Elgin county.
Close to 1,700 RIDE check events have been conducted across 13 West Region detachments in 33 days.
Last year at this time, 210 impaired charges and 29 warning-range suspensions had been issued.
This year’s OPP Festive RIDE Campaign runs from November 16, 2023, to January 1, 2024.
During the campaign, the public can expect an increased OPP presence on West Region roads and highways as officers conduct RIDE initiatives 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the province.
The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
