A new year and a new professional hockey league.
It was a historic day in the world of women’s hockey and for female athletes as a whole. The puck dropped on the inaugural Professional Women’s Hockey League Monday, with Toronto taking on New York at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
It was an extra special moment for St. Thomas natives Brittany Howard and Lexie Adzija, who are representing the Railway City on teams in Toronto and Ottawa respectively.
Howard and Toronto were blanked 4-0 by New York in the first of their 24-game season, with Adzija and Ottawa kicking off their campaign tonight at 7 against Montreal.
And be sure to circle January 13th on your calendar as that’s when Adzija and Howard will face off for the first time. (1 p.m. puck drop)
The teams from Minnesota, Toronto, Boston, New York, Ottawa and Montreal will then begin playoffs in May.
