A sentencing hearing for a man who killed four members of a Muslim family in London, Ontario, is hearing arguments from the Crown and defence on whether the attack amounted to terrorism. The hearing for Nathaniel Veltman is taking place in London and Justice Renee Pomerance says both sides are also expected to make submissions on the findings of facts she should make in light of Veltman being found guilty at trial.Twenty-three-year-old Veltman was found guilty in November of four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder for hitting the Afzaal family with his truck while they were out for a walk on June 6, 2021.Prosecutors had argued at trial that the attack was an act of terrorism by a self-professed white nationalist, while defence lawyers argued Veltman didn’t have criminal intent to kill the victims and didn’t deliberate and plan the attack.
