The Council of Ontario Universities says the newly announced cap on how many international students Canada can admit is punishing responsible institutions.
Steve Orsini, who is the president and CEO of the organization, says the federal government should reverse its decision to cap the number of new study permits it issues over the next two years.
He says less enrolment will strain the budgets of responsible universities.
As first reported, the federal government announced a two-year cap on international student admissions that’s expected to reduce the number of international students in Ontario by 50%.
