A fire over the dinner hour yesterday (Thursday) has displaced eight residents in a Jonas Street apartment, with one person suffering minor burns.
Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun has the details for myFM.
Several pets were rescued and the tenants of the other three units are able to retrieve their possessions, although there was extensive water damage throughout the structure.
The unit in which the fire began is completely burned out, according to Destun.
Investigators were on the scene Friday and it is believed the fire began in the kitchen of that unit.
She praised the efforts of Victim Services Elgin and the Red Cross for quickly stepping in to assist the residents at a stressful time.
