Twenty-five years after a double homicide north of St. Thomas, Elgin OPP are again seeking the public’s help.
On Feb. 2, 1999, Southwold firefighters and Elgin OPP responded to a house fire on Wellington Road.
An investigation determined Roger Smith and Wendy Haveron died as a result of blunt force trauma and that the fire at their residence was deliberately set.
Police and family members believe that someone may have information regarding the deaths. A $50,000 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the deaths.
Members of the Elgin OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP’s Criminal Investigation Branch, continue to investigate this double homicide.
Investigators are appealing to the public for any information that may help solve these serious crimes. Even a detail someone believed to be insignificant could make a difference.
