For the second consecutive month, the unemployment rate in the London area has seen a slight uptick.
According to data from Statistics Canada released last Friday, the unemployment rate in the London Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) climbed to 5.9 per cent in February, compared to 5.7 per cent in January.
Over the past year, the rate has only been higher in September, reaching 6 per cent.
The total labour force, encompassing individuals aged 15 and older who are either employed or actively seeking employment, decreased from 330,900 in January to 330,200 last month.
Additionally, the labour participation rate, indicating the percentage of the population engaged in the labor force, declined to 65.9 per cent in February from 66.3 per cent in the preceding month.
The London CMA includes St. Thomas, Strathroy, and neighboring communities.
