A new division of the Humane Society of London & Middlesex will also include Elgin County and will continue animal welfare enforcement and investigations. The new HSLM Animal Protection division has entered a 6 month contract with the Provincial Government where officers will be dispatched as calls come into their call centre.
The need for this division came after the Ontario SPCA notified the government in March that they no longer wished to be involved in enforcement.
Executive Director Steve Ryall says that they wanted to enter this service to continue to protect and advocate for animals.
Ryall says that their region will also include Oxford County. The system has been operational since the weekend and has been fielding calls.
The call centre’s number to call if you feel an animal is in distress or at risk is 1-888-611-4756.
