With the beautiful weather we’ve experienced the past few days in St. Thomas, you may have noticed an increase in walkers, bicyclists and children playing throughout our community.
As we prepare for this uptick to be the new normal over the summer months, myFM sat down with the St. Thomas Police Service to help share some important reminders about safety.
Samantha Wakefield, Corporate Communications Coordinator stresses that it’s a community effort and everyone needs to do their part.
Here’s what she had to say to those getting their bikes ready for the season.
As Wakefield noted, our roadways tend to get busy this time of year. Motorists are encouraged to be extra cautious, especially in school zones.
With the safety and well-being of the community being the top priority, the St. Thomas Police Service continues to support programs and initiatives that do just that. This includes the local bike registry that is free to all residents of St. Thomas.
If your bike were to be lost or stolen and then found, the registered serial number would then help police connect your bike back to you. And while everyone is encouraged to join the 529 Garage registry, Wakefield adds that prevention measures are the best way to keep your bike safe.
By following a few simple guidelines, we can all contribute to a safe and enjoyable experience this summer in St. Thomas.
