Ontario is looking to nearly double the number of publicly funded MRIs and CT scans offered through private clinics.
This comes as part of the government’s plan to expand the number of facilities offering services such as cataract surgery and hip and knee replacements.
Health Minister Sylvia Jones says new licences are expected to be issued in the fall, giving the province the ability to perform at least 100-thousand more MRIs and CT scans each year.
Some health advocates are concerned that increasing the role of private delivery signals a stepping-stone to privatization.
