On Thursday, United Way Elgin Middlesex held its annual Day of Caring- utilizing the power of volunteerism to unite together and improve lives in our local community.
It was a rather large undertaking this year, with work being done across St. Thomas-Elgin, London, Strathroy, and Dorchester.
We had the chance to the speak with President and CEO of United Way Elgin Middlesex, Kelly Ziegner about this impactful day
The roughly 480 volunteers from 25 workplaces came together to tackle various projects such as cleaning up garden beds, painting, organizing program supplies, hanging artwork, packing fresh produce boxes, landscaping, and sorting clothes.
Ziegner notes that Day of Caring also gives those taking part an inside look at the work being done in our community.
Adding that just a single day of support means so much to their partners.
Work undertaken locally included the painting of the dining room and offices at The INN in St. Thomas and the sprucing up of the YWCA’s new property on Hiawatha Street among others.
Although Day of Caring is only one day a year, it makes a significant impact across our community that lasts much longer stressed Ziegner.
