As we swelter under this year’s first major heat wave, medical experts are warning certain medications can affect how the body handles extreme temperatures.
Toronto-based Doctor Samantha Green says people with chronic physical and mental health conditions are more likely to struggle with heat regulation.
She says blood pressure medications can cause dehydration, while antidepressants and antipsychotics can interfere with the body’s ability to regulate heat.
Experts stress people should not stop taking medications because of the heat, but rather they should be monitored more closely.
