The OPP is reminding motorists that being a safe, attentive driver means keeping an eye out for emergency vehicles and tow trucks on the roadside, slowing down and moving over a lane when it is safe to do so.
It’s the law.
OPP spokesperson Ed Sanchuk reminds motorists this Civic Day long weekend, officers will be monitoring drivers approaching emergency vehicles on roadways.
Sanchuk adds they will also be on the lookout for aggressive, inattentive and impaired drivers and drivers and passengers not buckled up.
He has a simple message for motorists this long weekend.
Spend time with family and friends, however make sure nothing is marred by tragedy.
Sanchuk stresses the priority this Civic Day long weekend is focusing on motorist who fail to prioritize safety.
The OPP laid 1,282 charges in 2023 against drivers who failed to comply with Ontario’s Move Over law.
