It’s been a quiet commute the past couple of months as many of those big yellow school buses have sat idle.
Beginning Wednesday, our local roadways will once again be filled with students finding their way to school, and it takes a team effort to make sure they all get their safely.
In addition to our local police services putting an increased presence around school zones, First Student Canada in St. Thomas want to make sure everyone is aware of the role they play in bus safety.
That was Branch Manager Kevin Murray, who notes it takes a collaborative effort. By preaching bus safety both at home and at school, it drives home the importance of following the rules.
Murray shares some insight on some of the dangers that could occur while out on the road.
He adds that if something does go wrong, it’s often the actions of people on the bus and not the bus itself.
Murray also reminds motorists of the recently implemented lighting system on school buses. He says much like a traffic signal, if the light is yellow, it’s time to slow down.
Please remember that school buses tend to follow the same route everyday. Murray says that if a bus continuously stopping for students is going to cause you frustration, to find a different way to your destination.
