A 52-year-old St. Thomas resident was arrested for impaired driving Sunday after attempting to avoid a RIDE program on the south side of the city.
St. Thomas Police report that officers conducting the check noticed the driver had avoided the checkpoint, initiating a traffic stop as a result.
After a roadside screening device registered a fail, the individual was taken to police headquarters, where further testing confirmed their blood alcohol level was over the legal limit.
The driver was charged with impaired driving and released on an appearance notice.
