Preventing crimes before they can occur is always the best way to keep our communities safe. That’s the message during Crime Prevention Week running through November 9th.
The St. Thomas Police have being using the week to share some important messaging with residents about what they can do to keep their families, neighbourhoods, schools, and workplaces safe from criminal activity.
Corporate Communications Coordinator, Samantha Wakefield shares the focus for the final day.
Throughout the week, the St. Thomas Police Service highlighted numerous initiatives—ranging from auto theft prevention to support for victims of intimate partner violence—all aimed at empowering the public with knowledge and resources to make St. Thomas a safer place.
Police Chief Marc Roskamp envisions a St. Thomas where every individual feels empowered to contribute to a crime-free community. “The future of crime prevention lies not only with police but with every member of our community,” said Chief Roskamp. “A safer future means that residents, business owners, and police work together to prevent crime before it starts. Our strength lies in the power of our collective commitment.”
To further support this collaborative vision, the St. Thomas Police Service encourages residents to consider the following:
· Get Involved: Attend local safety events and become an active participant in community safety.
· Stay Informed: Follow the St. Thomas Police Service on our social media platforms and to stay in the loop of crime prevention resources, alerts, and tips.
· Be Proactive: Implement practical safety measures in your home, workplace, and public spaces, from security systems to lighting improvements.
Chief Roskamp emphasized, “Crime prevention is about creating lasting connections—between police and the community, among neighbors, and within local organizations.”
