Again this year, the city is being asked to provide free transit service on New Year’s Eve.
The free bus service would consist of DRT service that will pick up and drop off passengers from requested bus stops to destination bus stops.
The two buses would operate from 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday December 31 to 2:45 a.m. New Year’s Day.
In a report to city council for Monday’s (Nov. 18) meeting, Matthew Vriens, Manager of Transportation noted, “The goal of providing free transit service for New Year’s Eve is to provide safe rides home and raise awareness of drinking and driving.
“All drivers are reminded to plan ahead for a safe ride home and never drive impaired. To get home safely from New Year’s Eve festivities, drivers should plan on taking public transit, calling a cab, ride with a designated driver or stay overnight.”
Earlier this year city council approved suspension of the overnight parking restriction enforcement on Dec 25, 26, and Jan 1.
