Tired of winter the weather?
Then you better hope a few world famous rodents don’t see their shadow on Sunday.
February 2nd we will welcome the return of Wiarton Willie and Punxsutawney Phil, who legend has it, will determine whether we should bundle up for six more weeks of winter or prepare for an early spring.
Groundhog Day is rooted in the Christian holiday Candlemas, the midway point between the winter solstice and spring equinox, with the first official Groundhog Day being held February 2nd, 1887, in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
Locally, the City of St. Thomas will once again be holding a special Groundhog Day ceremony at the mural behind West Lake Evans Park (30 St. Catharine Street) this Sunday at dawn, where residents will learn if spring is around the corner. Full details here.
