This is the President’s Club, brought to you by Briwood Farm Market.
For more than 55 years, the St. Thomas Soccer Club has been a cornerstone of the local sports community, offering opportunities for players of all ages.
Vice President Robin Granger describes it as a “cradle-to-grave” program, starting as early as the Parents and Tots group for toddlers and running all the way up to senior recreational and competitive leagues.
“We have a very strong over-35 and over-45 program,” Granger explained. “And we even have some older gentlemen who play more casually. Our goal is to keep people in the game for life.”
The club’s extensive programming includes youth recreational leagues—commonly known as house league—run out of 1Password Park, as well as youth competitive teams. This year, the club will field 26 youth competitive teams in the Elgin Middlesex District Soccer League, traveling as far as London, Chatham, Woodstock, and beyond.
“We’re actually the largest soccer club in the Elgin Middlesex Association by a significant margin,” Granger said. “That speaks to our strong foundation and the passion for soccer in St. Thomas.”
Granger, who first joined the club in 2005 as a recreational player, has held several leadership roles over the nearly 20 years, including president. Now, as vice president, he helps oversee operations and ensure long-term sustainability.
In terms of what keeps him coming back? It’s the love for all aspects of the game. Adding “I’ve historically been somebody who likes to leave things in a better shape than when I got there, so I do try to focus on those kind of things.”
