St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital’s commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture has resulted in major recognition from the London Chamber of Commerce.
Tuesday evening, the hospital won a London Business Achievement Award in the Excellence in People & Culture category.
The presentation was hosted at RBC Place in London.
The awards are often referred to as the ‘Academy Awards’ of local business.
Karen Davies, Hospital President and CEO, stressed the recognition is a reflection on the work and dedication of the entire team at the facility.
She detailed the process involved in the determination of winners by the panel of judges.
Davies noted the award is affirmation that the hospital really is a special place with a unique culture.
The Excellence in People & Culture Award recognizes organizations that create a positive, inclusive and supportive workplace culture.
Davies admitted the large group from the hospital on hand for the presentation had no hint of what was to come that evening.
She explained two principles that maintain a supportive and compassionate workplace environment.
It comes down to creating a sense of belonging, and not just for the staff and administration.
Davies closed out by noting the recognition by the London Chamber of Commerce is a reminder “we are not just delivering critical healthcare.”
She concluded, “It’s more than just the services we provide; it’s about the way we work together, support each other, and ensure that kindness and empathy define every interaction, whether with our colleagues, patients, or visitors. This award is a testament to that culture and the positive impact it has on our community.”
