The union representing roughly 55,000 Canada Post workers has announced a nationwide ban on overtime as it continues to evaluate recent contract proposals from the employer.
In a statement released Thursday evening, the Canadian Union of Postal Workers instructed its members to decline any work exceeding eight hours per day or 40 hours per week.
In response, Canada Post acknowledged the overtime restriction but clarified that there are currently no rotating strikes or full-scale work stoppages underway.
The Crown corporation assured the public that mail services remain operational, though it cautioned that some delays could occur.
In a media release Canada Post noted, “The threat of a strike has already had a significant impact on Canada Post as customers have either moved to other delivery providers or have cancelled mailings to avoid their items being trapped by another disruption.”
