If you’re familiar with him, chances are it is probably through his rock and roll review, Frankie and the Fairlanes.
Michael Lambert is the voice behind the wildly popular musical aggregation that has been wowing audiences for nearly two decades.
But there’s another side to Lambert . . . his love affair with aluminum.
It all began with the iconic Airstream travel trailer you often see parked in his driveway.
Airstreams are instantly recognizable with their distinctive rounded shape and polished aluminum bodywork.
And Michael’s love affair with aluminum?
“For 30 years or so, I’ve been dabbling with aluminum as one of the media in my artwork,” explains Lambert,” and that love affair of using aluminum turned into an interest in painting reflective surfaces. And in the case I think we’re talking about today, it’s the reflective magical qualities of a polished vintage Airstream travel trailer.”
A travel travel that has become a North American icon.
An aluminum masterpiece of design that has been the motivation for Lambert’s artwork for so long.
Lambert points out the beauty of structuring your life along the minimalist design of the Airstream travel trailer.
And that Airstream parked in his driveway literally spawned an artistic awakening.
Propelling the Airstream far beyond the driveway to the front cover of several magazines.
All of which has lead to Lambert becoming an Airstream ambassador, allowing him to merge his musical and artistic endeavors and tour the continent.
“Yeah. It’s been a great blending of interests in travel and interests in building with my hands and tools and painting. And so it really, and the music part of it, works into a degree as well.
“So it really has been a nice seamless quilt work of passions and talents all being able to be used together. A bit of a patchwork quilt, but it is coming together nicely when you look at it from a distance or even up close.”
Lambert’s love affair with aluminum has redirected his music and art in a whole new direction . . . a transition as smooth as the contours of an Airstream.
