Today is the last official day of school for most local students, and with that comes the excitement of summer break—and an important reminder from the St. Thomas Police Service.
As kids head outdoors in greater numbers over the coming weeks, Corporate Communications Coordinator Samantha Wakefield says drivers need to be extra vigilant on city streets.
And with this transition into a new routine, parents are encouraged to talk to their children about pedestrian and bike safety—reminding them to use crosswalks, wear helmets and stay visible.
Beyond road safety, the service will be hosting several community initiatives this summer- from the annual Boredom Buster events to the Chief of Police Community Inclusion Council BBQ on July 6th– giving both members and local youth the chance to engage with one another.
Because, as Wakefield stresses, we all have a role to play.
