The Beer Store has announced another round of closures across the province, with one local outlet impacted.
The Beer Store on Queen Street in Rodney will close at the end of business on Sept. 28.
West Elgin Mayor Richard Leatham tells myFM the closure of a business makes a huge difference in the municipality.
The LCBO outlet on Furnival Road in Rodney will remain open.
And there is a local craft brewery, Natterjack Brewing in West Lorne.
Ozzie Ahmed, vice-president retail for The Beer Store notes in a media release, “The Beer Store is adapting to changeĀ in the retail market in Ontario. This is an ongoing process and includes making difficult decisions to close some retail locations.”
Leatham notes the closure will will result in a large empty building in the downtown.
Ahmed concedes, “We know this is difficult for customers, employees and the communities where we operate.”
Leatham points out that just last Friday, the only bank in nearby West Lorne closed.
He advises there was no communication between The Beer Store and the municipality about the September closing.
