A total fire ban is now in effect across Elgin County, including the City of St. Thomas, the Town of Aylmer, and all surrounding municipalities and townships.
Effective immediately, all open-air and recreational fires are prohibited.
This includes bonfires, campfires, burn barrels, chimineas, and any other fire set outdoors.
The decision was made due to extremely dry vegetation throughout the region, increasing the risk of wildfires.
All existing burn permits are suspended, and no new permits will be issued until the ban is lifted.
Those living outside St. Thomas are urged to report any open-air fire immediately by calling 9-1-1.
For questions or information on possible exemptions, residents should contact their local municipality or fire department.
The fire ban will remain in place until further notice.
