West Region OPP laid 1425 charges during the Civic Holiday long weekend traffic campaign.
Over the four-day period, 625 charges were laid for speeding, that’s down from 699 last year.
Of concern were the 47 impaired driving charges, two more than last year.
In Elgin, 57 speeding tickets were issued, down significantly from 69 last year.
Likewise, 5 impaired driving charges were laid, down from 11 last year.
And two seatbelt charges were issued, the same as last year.
In total, West Region officers conducted 1801 traffic stops during the campaign.
West Region campaign results are below, with 2024 figures in parentheses for comparison:
- 625 (699) speeding charges
- 148 (108) failure to wear a seatbelt charges
- 10 (16) distracted driving charges
- 47 (45) impaired driving charges
- 19 (12) fail to move over for emergency vehicles charges.
