There will soon be no smoking in all parks in the City of St. Thomas. This after City Council has recently received the “Smoke Free Municipal Places report” that will expand the “Public Places” definition in the Municipal Act.
Once passed, the bylaw will prohibit smoking in all Municipal outdoor public places except for approved outdoor designated smoking areas.
This includes all parks, pools and city buildings.
Smoking or holding of lighted tobacco, cannabis and vaping regardless of whether or not a “no smoking” sign is posted will be prohibited.
The bylaw is said to be a commitment from the City in being a leader in creating healthy smoke-free environments for all residents.
Designated outdoor smoking areas will be posted with signage at all properties. This includes affordable housing areas.
The bylaw will be on the August 12th council agenda.
