A tragic incident in Aylmer has left one dog dead and another owner facing charges.
On August 30 around 8 p.m., a woman walking her dog on John Street encountered a man with three large dogs. Police say one of those dogs attacked, inflicting serious injuries that ultimately resulted in the dog’s death.
An Aylmer Police officer on patrol was flagged down and quickly located the man, who had left the scene.
As a result, a 36-year-old Aylmer resident has been charged under the Dog Owners’ Liability Act with failing to prevent a dog from biting or attacking another animal.
He is scheduled to appear in provincial offences court in October.
Police say the Town of Aylmer will also be reviewing the dog’s status, with possible further sanctions.
