The Ontario Hockey League has announced a new partnership with the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League, designating the GOJHL as its first official development league beginning with the 2025-26 season.
The 23-team circuit, based in southern Ontario, has long been a stepping stone for OHL players, including recent London Knights stars Easton Cowan and Oliver Bonk, as well as alumni like Joe Thornton and Jeff Carter.
OHL Commissioner Bryan Crawford says the goal is to create a stronger, more unified pathway for young players following their draft year. Plans include a GOJHL showcase at the Connor McDavid OHL Top Prospects Game in January and expanded coverage of prospects through features like “Prospect of the Week.”
GOJHL Commissioner Craig Spada called the partnership a natural step forward, noting more than 15 players from the Memorial Cup-winning London Knights developed in the league last season.
Although the GOJHL is the first league to formalize this relationship, the OHL is continuing discussions with other Junior A leagues across the province—including the OJHL, CCHL, NOJHL and SIJHL—with the goal of expanding collaboration as the 2025-26 season approaches.
The GOJHL is home to the St. Thomas Junior B Stars.
