Seven local groups are receiving a financial boost from Central Elgin Council through its new Community Grant and Sponsorship Program.
Council has approved a total of $26,261 to support projects ranging from playground equipment to heritage preservation.
Launched in July, the pilot program was created to provide financial and in-kind support to community groups and not-for-profit organizations that enhance the municipality’s social, cultural, and economic life.
Mayor Andrew Sloan notes “by investing in these initiatives, Council is helping strengthen community connections and create opportunities that enrich the lives of residents across Central Elgin.”
Among this year’s recipients are the Belmont Santa Claus Parade Committee, Belmont Swans, Heritage Port Stanley, the London Down Syndrome Association, South Dorchester Home & School Association, the Sparta Community Society, and the Belmont Historical Society.
Council says it received 11 applications in total and thanks all groups for their efforts to strengthen the community.
