A residence on Axford Parkway in St. Thomas was the scene of a swatting incident Thursday morning.
Just after 7:30, city police responded to a report of an armed individual threatening a family.
Police responded and contained the area, completing a thorough search of the residence and a nearby home identified by the caller.
They coordinated with local schools to reassure the public that there was no risk to community safety.
It was confirmed there were no threats present and no one was in danger.
The investigation has since determined the report was unfounded and appears to have been a deliberate attempt to mislead police and provoke an emergency response.
St. Thomas Police advise this type of false report, commonly referred to as “swatting,” diverts valuable emergency resources away from real incidents and creates unnecessary risk for both the public and first responders.
A charge of public mischief is pending as the investigation continues and the St. Thomas Police Service adds it will hold those responsible accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
